Conductive contamination

Zinc Whisker Inspection & Remediation

Zinc whiskers are microscopic conductive filaments that grow from some electroplated steel — older raised-floor tiles, pedestals and ceiling hangers. Disturbed, they become airborne and can short circuits inside equipment.

Inspection of galvanized floor pedestals, tile undersides and ceiling grid for zinc whiskers, and controlled removal where they are found.

Inspection

A sample of floor components and overhead steel is checked under magnification.

  • Tile undersides, pedestals and stringers sampled across the floor
  • Ceiling grid and hangers checked where they are galvanized
  • Findings mapped by area so remediation can be scoped and priced

Remediation

Contamination contained and captured, never brushed or blown into the airflow.

  • Affected components cleaned with HEPA vacuums and controlled wiping
  • Tiles lifted in an agreed sequence with minimal disturbance
  • Replacement of affected components coordinated with your floor vendor when needed
  • Particle counts after the work, recorded in the report

The exact scope is agreed with your facility team before work starts. Anything outside it — or anything your site does not approve — is left alone. How we work around live equipment.
